Hero Clarity

Landing page teardown
Linear has one of the most admired landing pages in software. Designers screenshot it. Founders copy its spacing.
So we pointed our own tool at it, loaded the live page, and scored the copy the same way we score everyone. It came back at 52 out of 100. Not because the design is weak, it is not, but because the words and the structure leave easy points on the table.

๐ฏ What to fix first
The H1 repeats itself five times in the HTML, which signals a rendering mess, not confidence.
FixPick one H1 and commit: 'The product development system for teams and AI agents. Plan, build, and ship faster.'
Sign up and Open app compete with 30 other buttons, including 'Remove from favorites' and 'Close chat'.
FixStrip the above-fold button list to two: 'Start for free' and 'See it in action', nothing else.
A Customers nav link and a footer mention is not social proof, it is a breadcrumb.
FixAdd one named customer quote above the fold, e.g. 'Linear cut our sprint planning time in half. Sarah Chen, PM at Vercel.'
Pricing is in the nav, which is better than most, but nothing on the page hints at cost or free tier.
FixAdd one line under the primary CTA: 'Free for up to 250 issues. No credit card required.'
'Issue tracking is dead' is a bold claim that immediately raises the question: so why should I trust this instead?
FixFollow 'Issue tracking is dead' immediately with: 'Linear replaces it with a system where AI agents handle triage, labeling, and PR review automatically.'
'A new species of product tool' sounds like a tagline a committee approved after killing three better ones.
FixReplace with: 'Linear is what Jira would be if it were built today, by people who actually ship software.'
113 script tags and 31 images on a page that also renders a full fake product UI is a hierarchy disaster.
FixRemove the simulated sidebar navigation from the hero entirely, it reads as real UI and confuses the scan path.
113 script tags on a marketing page is not ambition, it is a performance liability that will kill mobile conversions.
FixAudit and defer every non-critical script. A landing page has no business loading more scripts than a full SaaS dashboard.
Sign up and Log in are present, and the free tier exists, but the path from page to working workspace is never stated.
FixAdd a three-step line near the CTA: '1. Create workspace. 2. Invite your team. 3. Ship your first cycle. Takes 4 minutes.'
The fold has a headline, a subline, and a provocative link, but no CTA button is visually dominant above the fold.
FixPlace a single high-contrast 'Start for free' button directly below 'Designed for the AI era.' before any product screenshot.
A 52 on a page this polished is the whole lesson: great visual craft cannot carry vague copy and a wall of competing buttons. The fixes below are small. That is the point.
